Our programs
We fund a deliberately small number of things and measure each against a single question: what changed as a result of the money?
Our health emergency program responds to local and international health crises — from pandemic surges to outbreaks such as Ebola. Every dollar donated to this program buys health-related essentials: personal protective equipment, oxygen, cold-chain storage and frontline clinical equipment.
We improve the economic security of low-income working families by building community understanding of the pressures they face, aligning service providers so families are not bounced between agencies, and investing in the programs that measurably drive households toward sustained stability.
College Dreams gives families a safe, accessible and no-cost opportunity to reach college. It runs through a College Dream account held with participating Texas colleges, developed in partnership between Ruby Heart Foundation and those institutions.
We work to eliminate child abuse and to reintegrate children into safe family and community life afterwards — connecting families to psychological services and coordinating with law enforcement and Child Protective Services so no child falls through the gap between agencies.
We provide safe, permanent and genuinely humane homes for exotic animals in need — focusing on physical and emotional care, public education in animal welfare, and minimally-invasive research that improves conditions for captive animal populations everywhere.
We work to improve quality of life for people living with HIV and AIDS and to reduce new infections, through high-quality HIV education, community outreach and testing delivered in a genuinely non-judgemental way.
We save lives by meeting the most critical community needs — screening access, diagnosis and treatment support — while investing in the breakthrough research that will prevent and ultimately cure breast cancer.
We fund cardiovascular medical research, educate the public on healthy living, and support appropriate cardiac care — reducing disability and death from cardiovascular disease and stroke.
We work to stop drunk driving, support the people and families it has already harmed, prevent underage drinking, and advocate for stricter impaired-driving policy.
We provide temporary housing for people facing eviction or a homelessness emergency — bringing relief to families as they get back on their feet and build a workable plan for what comes next.
Give to “where needed most” and we will direct it to whichever program has the largest unfunded gap that month. We publish that allocation.
